The 1619 Club visited the Mexican Heritage Plaza on Friday, March 3, 2023, to view ColorStruck, a production by Donale Lacy, Jr. which examines institutionalized racism using comedy, drama, spoken word, visuals, music and movement. For over fourteen years, "ColorStruck" has toured the country with yearly updated versions reflecting the current events in our world. Middle and high school students across Santa Clara County participated in this event which included breakout sessions and dialogue after the performance. 

On March 2, 2023, over 30 corporate volunteers from a dozen Bay Area companies attended our Envisioneers 6 Degrees of Networking event, to mentor and share their professional expertise with our scholars at Joseph George Middles School. In preparation for this event, scholars developed and practiced important career-building skills including creating resumes, business cards, and interviewing and networking communication skills.  Scholars gained valuable connections and an increased understanding of various college and career pathways through these direct 1-on-1 and small group conversations with our corporate volunteers.

Science Extravaganza visited Joseph George Middle School on November 18, 2022.  Mentors worked with all of our students to generate interest in the Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) fields while reinforcing the value of higher education.  Joseph George students were active participants in the engineering and scientific process through various workshops during their science classes.  They used critical thinking skills while also having fun as scientists!
